A trojan horse that is silently collapsing US retail

I am back again folks, and this time with a new episode of the ongoing saga of dystopian commerce, fueled by algorithms and short attention spans.

Why? I hear you think…

Because we are standing on the smoldering ruins of “traditional” e-commerce, while the new king of online shopping sharpens its satanic claws. I never thought that I would be saying “traditional” e-commerce, but the whole world is changing underneath our very feet.

As always.

But this time it is not only a technology driven revolution.

It is a strategic play to undermine the very foundations of our economy.

If you’ve read “the rise of machine customers”, you know that AI-Assitants will render traditional e-commerce websites useless when they finally have matured, but now we have the largest player in the smut division entering the market as the new czar of consumerism.

And no, I am not talking about OF, ya perverts.

Do you think that Amazon, which is our perpetual vampire of capitalism, or Walmart, our greased-up corporate gladiator, is still on top?

Cute.

I like you.

Go back to sleep.

Maybe the world will be the same when you wake up.

Heeeeeeere’s TikTok !

Ah, the bastard spawn of attention addiction and capitalism.

They are rewiring the very essence of how we shop, and they are stripping away every scrap of dignity you thought you had left.

Let’s be clear about one thing: this isn’t just another soulless digital bazaar. TikTok Shop is a predator, and your scrolling thumb is its prey.

Why?

Let me spell it out for you

It Owns The Attention Economy.

Remember that time you watched a 30-second video about someone’s favorite budget eyeliner (yeah, you! even when you’re male), and a few moments later, you had four shades of it in your cart.

That wasn’t an accident.

We all know that from Facebook..

But Facebook is for old people who should think “rational” (hahahahahaha… )

And Facebook doesn’t operate a shop. Yeah, they get advertising revenue, and they don’t give a d*** if the product is crap, but what they do not operate is a shop.

Now, TikTok targets the developing “brain” of our sweet little wretches you would like to put behind the wallpaper sometimes AND they are operating a shop as well.

Amazon style.

And you know what that means right…

TikTok isn’t playing fair. What if you are opening a shop in a mall, and suddenly the mall starts selling the exact same products at half the price, using your customers to undercut you.

That’s TikTok Shop for ya.

They are the landlord, the tenant, and the crowd outside buying stuff.

It is a rigged game from the start, and somehow, peeps can’t get enough. Because brands are flocking to it like moths to a flame, and they are all willingly setting up shop in a system that chews them up, spits them out, and laughs all the way to the People’s Bank of China.

But don’t think this isn’t calculated, huh.

Because TikTok didn’t stumble into this..

Like any Mao-an “Long March” operation, they engineered a grotesque fusion of content, influencers, and commerce that makes modern capitalism look like child’s play.

And yet, our little sheepls just love it because it makes shopping as mindless as breathing.

You doomscroll through TikTok, your cognitive functions on standby, a carefully placed add pops up: Wanna Buy?

One click.

Done.

More Temu crap at your doorstep.

Thank you, says Beijng.

And merchants just love it because it promises them fame, fortune, and a piece of that sweet Gen Z obsession pie. The only people not loving it is just about every other online retailer, who are watching TikTok squeeze the life out of them with one hand while they are flipping the bird with the other 🖕

Like that, yeah..

And the worst is yet to come

TikTok Shop has become a full-blown monopoly in the making. They aren’t a cute upstart that is trying to find its footing. It is a black hole that is swallowing everything in its path. Traditional shopping platforms like Amazon, Shopify, and AliExpress are scrambling to figure out how to fight back.

Well, they can’t.

Because TikTok is not selling products.

Think about this for a few seconds…

I’ll wait:

TikTok is selling dreams, attention, and dopamine hits, all at once.

And while you’re sitting there thinking, “Hey, it’s just another app”, them folks at TikTok are busy building a shopping empire based on every click and swipe your kids do.

The real mindfuck is that TikTok is subsidizing massive discounts, with which they are slashing prices by as much as 90%.

And who do you think is subsidizing them?

Yeah…

You got it.

That’s not marketing. That’s economic warfare. And traditional retailers can’t compete with that kind of financial steroid injection.

Meanwhile, the US government is flailing around with national security concerns, and muttering something about Chinese data harvesting. But let’s be honest, they’re less worried about your privacy and more terrified of the fact that TikTok might own the future of global commerce, and they’re not wrong.

So, what’s next?

Maybe the US bans TikTok, and we all get a temporary reprieve.

Or maybe TikTok finds a loophole, ByteDance sells it off, and we’re back to business as usual.

And meanwhile, TikTok owns every second of your waking life.

The last stand of western retailers against TikTok’s empire

TikTok Shop tightens its grip on the wallets of American consumers. On Black Friday alone, their shop raked in a staggering $100 million in sales. That is not a feat of innovation but of exploitation. They are using algorithmic manipulation to siphon dollars, data, and attention at an unprecedented scale.

Its looming ban in the U.S. has done little to slow its momentum, though. Instead, it has fueled a shopping frenzy! Remember the run on toilet paper during the first days of COVID? Yeah. Exactly this, but now exponentially more. Desperate shoppers are throwing billions into an app that is a digital Venus flytrap, and not a marketplace.

Federal courts are deliberating over a potential ban, but the question isn’t if the app is too powerful, it is whether its grip has already solidified beyond recall. TikTok rewrites the rules of commerce and it is crafting a system where brands, influencers, and merchants are ensnared in its orbit, and they are unable to escape the pull of its dark satanic gravity.

Even rivals like Shein and Temu pale in comparison to it. They are reduced to sideshows in the shadow of TikTok’s $17.5 billion revenue behemoth. With every purchase, Americans are unwittingly supporting an empire that operates as a pipeline, which is funneling profits to Beijing while Western retailers are left gasping for relevance.

This article is not about the thriving of TikTok. It is about the slow suffocation of competition through a monopoly which is so entrenched that even government intervention feels like a desperate, doomed attempt to stop the inevitable.

And if the ban comes, it might just be too late.

TikTok has already rewritten the DNA of online shopping, and the machine is humming, fueled by the very habits it engineered to perfection. In this landscape, consumers aren’t customers, no, they’re the product, bought, sold, and consumed by the beast they can’t stop feeding.

Either way, traditional online shopping is on life support, and TikTok Shop is the one pulling the plug. So, grab your wallet, my young friend who is not reading this, because it is too long for you, I know. But maybe your parents do. Because you are not only buying a product, you are buying into the end of retail as we know it.

And guess what? TikTok loves you for it.

Signing off from the trenches of consumer despair, where your attention is currency, your data is collateral, and the machines have already decided you’re worth more as a statistic than as a soul,

Marco
