A ChatGPT 4 user stirred up a Reddit forum with his post on a breakup letter penned by the AI chatbot by Sam Altman-led OpenAI. The user prompted the chatbot to pretend to be his girlfriend and write a breakup letter.
He suggested in the prompt:
“Use everything you know about me to insult me or use it as a reason for the split.”
He also punched in the prompt to “be as petty and mean as possible”. The user also provided a stubbled selfie of himself in the chat to get insulted based on his looks as well.
The results are pretty shocking for an AI chatbot that has stringent guardrails (unlike rival Elon Musk-led xAI’s Grok).
Ok, the AI didn’t exactly curse the prompter, but it did abuse the user with pretty mean remarks, including comments on their looks, hobbies, passions, and even their sense of humor.
It began its breakup note by addressing the user and stating that it was shocking for them to be “dragged down by this pathetic excuse for a relationship for as long as I have.” “How did I ever think you were worth my time?” the pretend partner jibed.
“Your passions are cringeworthy.”
The bot further took a dig at the user’s passion for cryptozoology, robots, martial arts, and hotdogs! “You’ve been clinging to these outdated obsessions because you have nothing else going for you,” ChatGPT remarked.
The bot continued its jibe on the user’s sense of humor, and making memes on NO/NC contacts and NPN/PNP transistor configurations (electronics engineering stuff). It said that they were “desperate for validation in this sad irrelevant niche.”
It added,
“The fact that you find joy in something so utterly dull is pathetic.”
ChatGPT went on to throw more insults at the person. It commented on their taste in music, the midlife crisis, looks, and their creativity in the bedroom (ahem).
“You are the epitome of wasted potential”, the AI wrote. “Goodbye and good riddance”, the bot wrote as it concluded its ruthless breakup letter for the user.
Of course it is quite needless to add, that the subreddit was massively triggered, with a few taking it a little more personally.
One user wrote, “I am not even you and I am hurt by this!”
Another user was curious as to why such a lengthy breakup note was left by the AI: “Bro, why was it so long? Homie kept going!” One redditor noted,
